2008 January: Hide export slumps

The highlight is for Wet Blue slump.

Bovine hide export in January slumped 21.45% regarding to 2007 January. 2,384,938 hides have left the country, totalizing US$ 181,668,983, which is a growth of 3.48% in value. It is not possible to evaluate if it deals about a market tendency or an isolated fact, but the Wet Blue export slump (less 41.83%) surprises, specially when it is verified that all kinds of bovine hide exported less (Salted -36.8%; Achieved, -9.12%) except the Crust hide (more 32.18%). Would they be really Crust?

Such data of 2008 January show the smallest historical participation of Wet Blue hide on the total of hide export, only 39.38% (table 4). In spite of being premature any kind of analysis, such result must be compared to the one occurred in 2007 January. In that month, the Wet Blue participation of the total was of 53.17%, this is, preponderant. Let us wait, than, the result of 2008 first quarter in order to have an analysis of the possible settings in 2008.
